Oriental Mindoro’s Economy Records a 5.1 Percent Increase in 2023

On November 26, 2024, during the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) Dissemination Forum by the Philippine Statistics Authority, PPDC Lydia Muneca S. Melgar delivered the highlights of the province’s 2022-2023 Provincial Product Accounts.

Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries remained strong through government support programs, sustainable farming practices, and infrastructure improvements.

Industry & Infrastructure benefitted from better road networks, power supply initiatives, and solid waste management programs.

Services Sector led the economy, especially accommodation & food services, but manufacturing saw a decline due to power challenges.

Despite economic progress, challenges like the 2023 oil spill, climate change, and power supply issues continue to impact growth. Moving forward, Oriental Mindoro focuses on sustainable agriculture, tourism revival, infrastructure development, and livelihood diversification to ensure a resilient and thriving economy for all Mindoreños.

The economy of Oriental Mindoro grew by 5.1 percent in 2023 from its 2022 level, slower than the 8.2 percent growth in the previous year. This represents an increase in the value of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from PhP 109.41 billion in 2022 to PhP 114.96 billion in 2023. The GDP levels in 2023 continued to surpass its pre-pandemic performance with a margin of PhP 10.87 billion compared with the 2019 level.
