First Organizational Meeting of the Provincial Statistics Committee held

The Provincial Statistics Committee (PSC) chaired by EnP. Lydia Muñeca S. Melgar, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator, held its first organizational meeting last Thursday, 27 February 2020 at the Provincial Office of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

The PSC was established to serve as policymaking body on statistical matters and provide a venue for the discussion and resolution of statistical issues at the provincial level.  It shall report on a quarterly basis to the concerned Regional Statistics Committee and ensure that policies issued by PSC, RSC and PSA Board are adopted at the provincial level.

The PSC is composed of the Provincial Agriculture Office, Provincial Budget Office, Provincial Health Office, Provincial Engineering Office, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Provincial Tourism, Investment and Enterprise Development Office, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Education Oriental Mindoro Division, Philippine National Police, and Department of Labor and Employment,.  The Provincial Statistics Officer is the Vice Chairperson and the PSA Provincial Office serves as the Secretariat.

Additional members that were suggested and approved during the meeting were the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, National Irrigation Administration, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Education Calapan City Division, Mindoro Biodiversity Conservation Foundation, Inc. as private sector representative and Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology as representative from the academe.

Also discussed during the meeting were the upcoming 2020 Census of Population and Housing and the proposed schedule of CY 2020 PSC quarterly meetings.  The next meeting is scheduled on 17 April 2020.
